New transport network for Wiesbaden: 35 million euros for road construction!
A lot is happening in the area of transport infrastructure in Wiesbaden! The city recently decided to comprehensively modernize the transport network. The reason for this is, among other things, the necessary compensation for the road damage caused by the collapse of the Salzbachtal Bridge. As the Frankfurter Rundschau reports, the traffic department is currently negotiating with the federal Autobahn GmbH over claims amounting to millions. The city sees the situation as an incentive to invest heavily in transport infrastructure.
Last year, around 4.35 million euros were invested in new traffic and sidewalks. The city has initiated over 60 different construction projects, of which 21 have already been settled and 23 have been awarded. Seven projects are also planned for 2026 and 2027. The goal is clear: through close coordination with partners such as ESWE-Versorgung and ELW, construction times should be shortened and costs saved.

At the same time, the renovation of the Konrad-Adenauer-Ring is underway, which includes a canal renewal. The renovation of Emser Straße in the city center will also last until 2027. What concerns many people is the condition of some diversion routes that were used after the collapse of the Salzbachtal Bridge. These structures have supported around 80,000 vehicles in two and a half years. Another important point that is listed in the city's list of demands.
Progress on the Salzbachtal Bridge
The north bridge is scheduled to open to traffic at the end of June 2025. According to the plans, traffic in the direction of Rüdesheim is to be transferred to the new bridge, which should significantly relieve congestion on the existing roads. The current asphalt work on the bridge will begin in mid-May, and the external area work is also scheduled for after Easter.
