Countdown to the Ikano Bank City Marathon: Wiesbaden in sports fever!

The time has come in a few days: On June 28, 2025, the 4. Ikano Bank City Marathon will take place in Wiesbaden. Preparations are in full swing, and to date over 4,500 athletes have already been registered who will compete at various distances. The event, which has developed from a small midsummer run into a full-fledged city marathon, is a highlight in the Hessian event calendar.

The organizing sports assistant Wiesbaden e.V. and the organizer Kai Walter from WEC GmbH are also pleased with the high number of registrations. Particularly noteworthy: the half marathon already has over 2,000 reports, which makes it the strongest field of participants. Registration for the other distances, including the marathon, the 10 km, the 5 km as well as a children's run and various relay and company runs, is possible up to two hours before the start.

versatile routes and new encounters

The marathon starts on Wilhelmstrasse and leads the runners through the picturesque Nerotal and the spa park, past the Kurhaus. The destination is on the Schlossplatz, where the athletes are expected under floodlights at the "Midnight Finish". Kai Walter stated: "The number of registrations exceeds that of the previous year and our security concept is adapted." The route also has a decent challenge for 42.195 kilometers: over 90 meters can be mastered here per ten kilometers.

A special highlight is the school class run, which takes place on June 27 and is fully booked with almost 2,000 participants. Dr. Gerhard Obermayr from Sporthilfe emphasizes how important such events are for the image of Wiesbaden. In addition to the sporting dimension, the marathon also brings great cooperation with it that strengthens the community.

enthusiasm for running on growth course

The enthusiasm for running events in Germany is continuously increasing, as a current study shows. In the past few decades, the number of running participants has increased greatly and more and more people have been discovering the joy of running. This is also reflected in the number of registrations for the Wiesbaden marathon. Over 500 starters are registered for the marathon route - a number that has quintupled since the first event. This development shows the growing interest in sporting challenges and community experiences.

The organizational preparations are extensive: special attention is paid to accessibility in order to enable everyone interested to participate. Philipp Siebert from Ikano Bank highlights the positive development through the new location in the city center and is already looking forward to the event. After 2025, the name partnership will end with the Ikano Bank, but the marathon is to be continued - a good sign for the long -lasting tradition of this event in Wiesbaden.

Can we look forward to a great event? Yes, with music, light and a colorful range of food trucks, the target area on the Schlossplatz becomes the festive stage for all participants: inside and spectators: inside. With the motto "Whoever moves who lives", not only promotes sporting activities, but also celebrated the attitude to life in Wiesbaden.
