Arson attacks and explosions in the Rhine-Main area: Police are investigating!
A series of arson attacks and explosions is causing concern in the Rhine-Main area. Since July 2025, the investigation has focused on a total of nine incidents that took place in cities such as Frankfurt, Offenbach, Neu-Isenburg and Taunusstein. A special police investigation team is behind the efforts to clarify these explosive cases. Loud hessenschau.de Events have reached alarming proportions in recent months.
The first incident occurred on July 17 in Offenbach, when an explosion at a pizzeria caused a loud stir. This was followed by an attempted arson attack on a café in Frankfurt-Bockenheim and several arson attacks on residential buildings in Taunusstein, which took place on both August 29th and 1st. Of particular concern was the explosive explosion at a kiosk in Neu-Isenburg on September 7th, which resulted in two injuries. Although the police do not want to speak of a “series of attacks,” possible connections between the crime scenes are being intensively examined.
Investigations and suspects
The suspects include a 15-year-old and an 18-year-old man from the Netherlands, who are now in custody. The younger suspect is being prosecuted for attempted murder because he is said to have thrown a burning object into a café. The 18-year-old is held responsible for the arson attacks on the residential buildings in Taunusstein. These constant attacks leave room for speculative theories about possible backgrounds, one possibility being the “crime as a service” method. The acts could have been ordered by clients via messenger services.
Another incident from October 21st, in which there was an explosion at a restaurant in Frankfurt-Niederursel, is particularly disturbing. This incident is currently not related to the ongoing investigation, but the background is still being investigated.
Back to normality?
The effects of these incidents are felt by the population. Many residents are worried and wondering how safe their neighborhoods still are. Investigators encourage the public to be vigilant and report suspicious activity. The feeling of security in the affected cities has diminished.
In the meantime, the police are optimistic that these cases will be solved in a timely manner. In the hope of increasing safety, there are ongoing efforts to better inform residents about the dangers and to create opportunities for self-monitoring.
