Innovative joint surgery: Bad Kreuznach expands treatment range!
Something is happening in the heart of Bad Kreuznach! The “Practice for Joint Surgery” has expanded its range of services to include foot and ankle surgery. This is a welcome upgrade for the region, where until now there were only specialized centers in more distant cities such as Rüdesheim or the Rhine-Main area. The assumption of this important focus lies in the hands of Dr. Felix Wunderlich, who has been strengthening the team since October 2024. He previously worked as a senior physician at the Center for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at Mainz University Medical Center for ten years, bringing valuable experience with him.
The practice offers a wide range of services. From treating ingrown toenails to complex procedures such as artificial ankle joints, the doctors cover all important areas. At the side of Dr. PD Dr. Lukas Eckhard, specializing in knee joint injuries, and Dr. Fred Weber, who has focused on arthroscopic operations on knee and shoulder joints since 1990. Together they form a strong team, ready to further improve medical care in the region.
Digital volume tomography: An advance in diagnostics
A highlight of the new practice is the implementation of digital volume tomography (DVT). This innovative X-ray-based procedure enables high-resolution 3D reconstruction of bony structures, which is particularly useful when examining foot and ankle diseases under stress. As the Joint Clinic As explained, DVT not only provides faster results - often within a few minutes - but also ensures lower radiation exposure compared to conventional CT examinations. A real benefit for patients!
The DVT images not only show misalignments and biomechanical changes that only become visible under weight bearing, but also help with the precise planning of surgical procedures. This is done by the Special orthopedic clinic which highlights the advantages of this modern technology: no additional X-rays required, no cramped conditions, and all of this in the familiar surroundings of the practice.
