Helmut Schmidt: Mayoral election in Rüdesheim - The local hero is running!

In the municipality of Rüdesheim, the SPD candidate Helmut Schmidt, current mayor of Waldböckelheim, sees his chance for the mayor's office. With 100 percent of the vote, he was nominated as a candidate for the mayoral election and will run against the incumbent mayor Markus Lüttger from the CDU on Sunday, June 29th. Schmidt is 56 years old and is in his third term as mayor. The nomination event took place in his home community, where he is not only a well-known face, but was also warmly supported by Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Alexander Schweitzer. Schmidt took the opportunity to present his plans and visions for the community.

“I know the challenges of our community and want to shape citizen-oriented politics,” emphasized Schmidt in his introductory speech. His experience in local politics is remarkable: he has been active for 16 years, including 11 years as local mayor and 7 years as parliamentary group leader in the VG Council. “This is a good foundation that I can build on,” he added. Markus Stein, chairman of the SPD community association, praised not only Schmidt's calm manner, but also his local political expertise and the passion with which he works for the people in the association community.

Visions for Rüdesheim

For Schmidt, it is important to tackle burning issues. One of its central goals is to strengthen communities through professional funding advice. “We are fighting together for a better Rüdesheim,” explained Schmidt. The implementation of renewable energies should also be promoted while taking nature conservation into account. He also plans to increase everyday safety by having more staff to monitor stationary traffic and setting up a modern, digital administration system. “Transparency and citizen participation are my top priority,” said the experienced politician.

The upcoming local elections in Rhineland-Palatinate, which also include the mayoral election in Rüdesheim, take place every five years. The next election date is already set for June 9, 2024, when voters will decide on numerous mandates, from local councils to district councils. Schmidt is looking forward to the upcoming election Sunday with confidence, in which he not only aims for the mayor's office, but also wants to remain the head of his community of Waldböckelheim if his plan works.

The support he receives from his comrades and the population shows that Schmidt is very popular among voters. During an evening celebration with a glass of Nahe wine, which he enjoyed with Prime Minister Schweitzer, one could feel the confidence and hope for a successful election. Now it remains to be seen whether the citizens of the Rüdesheim community will honor Schmidt's desire for change on June 29th and decide in favor of him.
