New managing director at TSV Speyer: Rüb takes responsibility!

Speyer, Deutschland - The TSV Speyer 1847 e.V. is faced with an exciting fresh start: Andres Rüb will be the new full -time managing director and club manager from July 1, 2025. He succeeds Andreas Kochner and ends a transition phase in the club. Rüb, who was born in Aachen and grew up in Speyer, has volunteered in the handball department of the association for years. Association chairman Angelika Wöhlert is enthusiastic about the decision and sees Rüb's experience and commitment a great profit for the club community.

After completing his architecture in Stuttgart and a stay in Hofheim am Taunus, Rüb returned to Speyer in 2014. He is sporty from a volleyball family and has valuable knowledge through his function in the Rheinhessen-Palatinate handball association. Rüb is also deeply rooted in sports because he is married and has three sports enthusiasts. In a first statement, he expressed his anticipation and confidence in the new task: "I would like to be the contact for the problems of the departments and members and strengthen the club identity and the sense of community."

holiday camp for young handball players

While the club leaders under Rüb's management wants to take new paths, TSV Speyer is already in the middle of the organization of a holiday camp for young handball players. Here, new organizational approaches are tried out in order to further develop the experience from almost 30 years of camp organization. Matthias Kornes, an active trainer instructor, will support the team that takes care of this small athlete community.

A particularly motivated helper even took five days of vacation to actively support the camp. Such a voluntary commitment is becoming increasingly important today, provided that you look at the current trends in German sport. A study by the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz shows that the proportion of committed people in sports clubs between 2014 and 2019 has dropped by almost 10 percent. However, the importance of voluntary commitment remains unbroken, with tens of thousands of volunteers being active at major events such as the UEFA Euro 2024.

volunteer engagement in sport

The study also refers to the increasing need for sports clubs to create sustainable structures in order to bind volunteers in the long term. Over 80 percent of the volunteers report that they express values through their work, and at the 2024 handball European Championship, the performance of the main motivation will be. The changes in club life are noticeable; Both flexibility in the commitment and the promotion of intrinsic motivation are crucial to set up a strong team of volunteers in the future.

With the upcoming takeover of Rüb in the management and the active commitment of TSV Speyer at the holiday camp, it becomes clear: here a fresh wind moves, which could drive the club in a promising direction. At a time when the Olympic Games are discussed politically and accelerating social developments, it is important that sports clubs are well positioned and secure the support of their members and volunteers.

We look forward to developments at TSV Speyer and will continue the progress.
