Fraudsters and burglars on the move: police on duty in Hofheim!

In the region around Eschborn and Sulzbach, crime is causing worried faces. Three incidents in particular in the last few days have caused a stir and shed light on the current security situation.

What happened? An unknown perpetrator took advantage of the residents' carelessness and broke into a basement compartment of an apartment building on Neugasse in Eschborn between July 21st and 22nd. A high-quality Pedelec from the Gazelle brand, model “Ultimate C380 HMB BELT WA”, worth 5,000 euros was stolen. The police are asking for information about this break-in to the Eschborn police station on 06196 / 9695-0. This shows once again how important it is to protect your own premises against burglaries - because in Germany a burglary happens every six minutes, as [ZDF](https://www.zdfheute.de/panorama/ criminalitaet/einbrueche- Schaden-deutschland-versicherung-aktiski-100.html) reports.

Telephone fraud in Sulzbach

But it's not just burglaries that are a concern. In Sulzbach, a woman also fell victim to fraudsters who posed as a bank employee on the phone. On Monday, July 21st, around 5:40 p.m., she revealed sensitive online banking data, which allowed the perpetrators to make transfers of around 10,000 euros. It was only after the conversation that it became apparent that something was wrong. The police warn urgently: “Banks never ask for PINs or access data on the phone,” as news-stadt.de emphasized. This type of fraud remains a major risk, especially during the summer holidays when many people are out and about.

Police checks to prevent burglary

In view of the increasing number of burglaries, the Hofheim police carried out targeted checks on July 22nd and 23rd in order to put a stop to burglary crime. During the operation between 4 p.m. and midnight, 37 vehicles and 63 people were checked. Two e-scooter riders have already been spotted “baldowing” houses. One driver was also under the influence of drugs.

  • Die kontrollierten Einheiten führten zu:
  • 11 Ordnungswidrigkeiten und entsprechende Verfahren wurden eingeleitet.
  • Weitere Kontrollen sind zur Prävention von Einbruchskriminalität angekündigt.

Recent events illustrate how important it is to remain vigilant and protect yourself against break-ins in your own home. According to the General Association of the German Insurance Industry, around 90,000 burglaries were registered in 2024 alone, which caused significant financial damage. On average, the damage per burglary rose to around 3,800 euros, which is also cause for concern. Preventive measures such as high-quality locks and alarm systems are therefore recommended.

Police continue to focus on preventive measures and remind citizens that safety is always a community issue. Anyone who observes anything suspicious should not hesitate to inform the police.
