Eschborn: Mahnaz Mohammadi falls in the memory race - health stable!
On June 19, 2025, the Robert Lange Memorial Race took place in Eschborn, which has now become an important tradition in cycling. Established in honor of the late cyclist Robert Lange, who tragically had an accident during a training camp, the event attracts numerous participants and spectators. Some of Lange's former companions, such as Olympic champion Jens Lehmann, have registered again this year. A total of twelve races were on the program, aimed at different age and ability groups. The circuit, with a length of 950 meters, stretched around the XXXLutz Mann Mobilia furniture store at Elly Beinhorn Straße 3-7.
The cycling department of the Bolanden cycling club was represented by several riders, including the new racing rider Mahnaz Mohammadi, who celebrated an exciting debut in Germany by taking part in the U23 class. She had previously gained racing experience in Afghanistan. On this day, Felix Bierling and Raphael Ollig also started in the U11 and U15 races respectively and showed impressive performances under the challenging conditions of the event.
Motivation and challenges
For Felix Bierling the U11 race started at 11:21 a.m. He competed with 14 other drivers over a distance of 15 laps (14.3 km). On lap 4 he had a great performance when he took the lead. Ultimately he took 4th place and collected 3 points in the classification sprint.
Raphael Ollig started just a short time later at 12:10 p.m. in the U15 race, which lasted 25 laps (23.7 km). He was part of a four-person leading group and carried out active leadership work. Despite his great efforts and a tactical error in the final sprint, he took 8th place.
Shocking moment in the U23 race
However, an unexpected event overshadowed Mahnaz Mohammadi's debut. Just as she was getting involved in the racing in the U23 class at 1:30 p.m., the race was interrupted on lap 4 after Mahnaz suffered a serious fall. On this lap she was lapped and had an unfortunate collision which resulted in serious injuries. Luckily, she received medical attention quickly and was taken to the hospital, where she stayed overnight for observation. Fortunately, there is already positive news about Mahnaz's health and the RVB hopes for a speedy recovery. The plan is for her to take part in the Afghan Championships between June 26th and 28th, 2025 in Les Herbiers.
Falls are not a rare phenomenon in cycling. As an analysis shows, the 2021 Tour de France experienced a spate of crashes during the season - some riders were seriously injured. This always raises questions about safety in cycling. The memorial race was also discussed after the Mahnaz incident, with the safety level of the routes and the general conditions playing a central role radsport-rennrad.de.
For the Bolanden cycling club, the memorial race was a mixed experience. While the placings of the younger riders were promising, the hope for a quick recovery from Mahnaz Mohammadi remains an important aspect for the team, as does the commitment to continue to promote safety and quality in cycling wochenblatt-reporter.de and bdr-medienservice.de.
