Eschborn in training fever: 900 students looking for a future!
On June 13, 2025, the “Azubion 2025” event took place in Eschborn, attracting over 900 students from Hofheim, Eppstein, Dreieich and Eschborn. The aim of the event was to provide young people with valuable information about apprenticeships and their career prospects after leaving school. With the active support of 15 companies and institutions, around 50 training opportunities were presented. The event clearly focuses on the quality of career orientation and the promotion of young talent, which is of great importance given the growing shortage of young talent in the Rhine-Main region. This is also highlighted by Taunus Nachrichten.
A special highlight of the Azubion was the offer of free shuttle buses, which enabled the students to visit the companies on site. They were able to have personal conversations with trainees, dual students and HR managers and collect valuable tips for interviews and application documents. The supporting program had an infotainment character, which made the event particularly appealing for young visitors. Mayor Adnan Shaikh emphasized the importance of this concept for attracting talent in the region and underlined the need for qualified young people.
The situation on the training market
The numbers on the training market are striking: In 2024, the number of newly concluded training contracts fell by 0.5% compared to the previous year, which corresponds to 486,700 new contracts. According to Bildung.de, the demand for training places remains slightly increased, but the supply has fallen again. Nationwide, 69,400 training positions were unfilled as of the reporting date, which corresponds to 12.8% of the total training offering.
This is particularly evident in craft and technical professions, such as concrete and reinforced concrete workers, plumbers and butchers, where a high proportion of positions remain unfilled. The number of unsuccessful applications has also reached a worrying level of 70,400, an increase of 10.5% compared to the previous year. A rethink is required here in order to increase the attractiveness of skilled trades.
New ways to find training places
A solution to the challenge on the training market could be the digital platform eschborn-for-talents.de, which provides information on vacancies for training, dual study programs and internships all year round. The use of this platform is free for young people, which ensures an uninterrupted connection between training providers and those seeking training.
“Azubion 2025” is not only an important source of information, but also acts as a kind of catalyst to close the gaps between supply and demand in the training market. The training market in 2024 appears to be stable, but also challenging. The BIBB identifies regional differences and problems of matching between vacancies and the applicants' qualifications as central issues that need to be overcome. Regular events like “Azubion” are a step in the right direction to specifically support young people and prepare them for professional challenges.
