Honors for pioneers: Rüsselsheim celebrates strong women from the Women's Chamber!

On September 18, 2025, a significant signal for equality for women was set in Rüsselsheim. Mayor Patrick Burghardt honored three founding members of the Women's Chamber, who have tirelessly advocated for women's political issues and equality since it was founded in 2003. Their persistence and solidarity have contributed significantly to Rüsselsheim being in a more progressive position in many respects today. Burghardt praised their commitment as an expression of courage, passion and conviction, and he made it clear that the path to equality is far from complete. Without these pioneers, the city would not be where it is today, said the mayor.

The women honored are Christel Göttert, publisher of Christel Göttert Verlag and driving force behind the peace protection group; Carmen Größ, managing director of the women's center and expert on feminism, and Anne-Trude Zieres, master hairdresser and entrepreneur, who also founded the Anne Trude Zieres Foundation. Göttert, who has already been awarded the Marga Mayer Memorial Prize and the Groß-Gerau District Culture Prize, and Größ, who is successfully involved in the acquisition of third-party funding, are outstanding examples of the influence that women in Rüsselsheim can have on society.

New structures in the women's chamber

During this time, the Women's Chamber reconstituted itself and was commissioned as an advisory body for the implementation of the EU Charter on equality between women and men, signed by Burghardt. Renate Meixner-Römer took over the chairmanship, while Carmen Größ acted as deputy. At the last meeting, new members were sworn in and the history of the Rüsselsheim cooperation model was presented. The Women's Chamber, consisting of elected, knowledgeable citizens and female city councilors, will also develop the next action plan for equality.

The goals of the action plan include combating discrimination and ensuring fair participation of women and men in decision-making processes. Particular focus is placed on the topics of work and education, especially on the situation of women and girls in the labor market. The committee is also planning a campaign to promote part-time training for young mothers and single parents. fnp.de notes that the Women's Chamber is one of the three pillars of the Rüsselsheim cooperation model, which has been promoting equal rights since 2001.

A look into the future

The Women's Chamber's initiatives are diverse. They range from competitions for family-friendly businesses to Girls Day and the signing of the European Charter for Equality. In view of the planned topics such as the transition from school to work and the compatibility of family and work, it is clear that the Women's Chamber plays a central role in giving women and girls in Rüsselsheim a voice and improving their living and working situation.

In order to provide the impetus for an hopeful and fair future, networking within the city is required, true to the motto: “Achieve more together!” Rüsselsheim thus proves once again that there is valuable potential for the entire society in equality between women and men. ruesselsheim.de summarizes the importance of continuing to work towards achieving these goals.
