Successful GGV company run: 1,080 participants in the heat at Dornberg Castle!
On June 14, 2025, the eagerly awaited GGV company run “GG is running” took place in its eleventh edition. In summer temperatures of over 30 degrees, a total of 1,080 runners took part in this event, which has established itself as a welcome sporting event in the region. The new start and finish area in front of the picturesque Dornberg Castle offered a charming backdrop for a sporting spectacle. Rheinmainverlag reports that this year the route no longer ran through the city center in order to better meet safety requirements. Instead, the participants crossed the railway bridge between Berkach and Büttelborn twice.
The focus was particularly on community spirit, as one euro was donated to the Hospice Foundation Groß-Gerau for each participant, bringing together an impressive total of 1,200 euros. After about two kilometers, the runners were able to refresh themselves at a water point that was looked after by the hospice association. Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau was enthusiastic and praised the excellent inter-municipal cooperation and the organization of the run.
Top sporting performances
Not only were the number of participants remarkable, but also the sporting achievements. Olaf Koch from zöller media & sporTZ was the fastest runner and completed the route in 16:24 minutes. The fastest woman, Sybille Dölle-Karakurt from the Riedhexen, took 8th place in the overall ranking with a time of 20:07 minutes. A total of 112 men's teams and 90 women's teams, each with four runners, took part, which underlines the high level of interest and participation in this event.
Organizer Thomas Zöller was satisfied with the response and the number of participants, which exceeded expectations. Numerous companies, institutions and clubs from the region were also represented and contributed to the success of the run. The atmosphere in the castle courtyard after the run, which turned into a pleasure zone with DJ music, made the event an all-round successful celebration for everyone.
Preparing for the next run
For all those who want to take part in the next run, the registration portal opened on January 13th, with registrations possible until June 5th at 3 p.m. The distribution of the starting documents took place on June 10th and 11th in the city museum. Another highlight was that Groß-Gerauer Bäder GmbH opened the outdoor pool to all participants until 9 p.m. The starting number served as an entry ticket so that the athletes could enjoy a refreshing cool down after the competition. Gross-Gerau is running has repeatedly struck a chord with participants in recent years and provided suitable offers.
