On November 2, 2025, Dieburg will be about honoring special personalities. The city is once again awarding the coveted title of “Dieburg of the Year”. This award celebrates those who wholeheartedly work for the well-being of their fellow human beings. The trophy that has been popular for years and is presented for this award comes from the creative pen of the Dieburg artist Martin Konietschke.
The nomination period runs until November 30th, and every citizen of Dieburg can submit suggestions. The aim of this award is clear: to honor people who do voluntary work or help other people. Submissions are informal and only need to contain the contact details and a brief description of the nominee's achievements. Suggestions can be submitted by individuals, associations, the city council, the magistrate or the administration. Mittelhessen informs that the jury that decides on the award consists of members of the city's executive board and representatives of the magistrate.
Nomination criteria and awarding of prizes
The selection of the award winners is based on a variety of criteria such as social behavior, solidarity and commitment to community cohesion. The involvement of young people and pensioners as well as the cultural significance also play a role. The winner can not only be happy about the award, but also receives the right to decide on a donation amount of 500 euros for a non-profit organization or an association.
This award is traditionally presented during the city's New Year's reception, where the head of the city council and the mayor announce the honor. Numerous honorable contributions have been recognized in recent years. Some of the notable award winners in recent years include Dr. Norbert Reiß, who was honored in 2018 for the “Dentists Help” initiative, and last year Richard Berg for his outstanding work at the Dieburg Castle Concerts.
