These terrifying numbers lead to discussions about the criminal responsibility of minors under the age of 14, especially in the event of severe offenses such as robbery or assault.

It is no secret that the majority of suspects are male: in 2024 there were almost three quarters of the suspects. The Federal Criminal Police Office mentions psychological stress as a possible reason for the increase in youth crime, in particular through the Corona measures and the challenges that young people face today. The trend not only shows an increase in violence among young people, but also a need to strengthen the prevention work in the field of child and youth welfare.
