Alsfeld shines! 18. Magical night of lights delights visitors
When the early autumn weather arrives in the old town of Alsfeld, it is the start of a very special event: the 18th “Magic Night of Lights” on September 28th, 2025. During the festive event, numerous lights transform the pedestrian zone into a fantastic sea of lights and invite locals and visitors to an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere was pleasant, which made the shopping trip a special pleasure and gently enveloped the numerous people in the night.
The event was organized by AlsAktiv e.V. and took place in the charming old town. Different musical performances provided a varied background. Among others, the countertenor Oswald Musielski and his colleagues performed at the Mainzer Tor, while Elke Saller and Ute Steffan created a very special atmosphere with marimba and harp in Mainzergasse. For lovers of “world hits from the living room”, Nils Hofmann and Sören Flimm were active on the market square stage, and the musicians from “JUST4FUN” enriched the event at the Schwälmer Brunnen. BreeZe also provided musical accents in the “Laternchen” in Obergasse. Another highlight was the reading in the Trinity Church, where Carolin Braatz and other readers captivated the audience.
A feast for all senses
The Night of Lights offered more than just musical delights. The shops and restaurants also shined in a new light. The local retailers kept their doors open until midnight and treated visitors to culinary surprises and special offers. Many visitors were able to take advantage of the opportunity to pick up a bargain or two while enjoying the festive atmosphere. Positive feedback from stores, including Modehaus Eisenach and Modetreff Pabst/ML by Pabst, reflects the anticipation and satisfaction of retailers.
A nice gesture also awaited the guests: in loving memory, the visitors received heart-shaped sparklers as a thank you for coming. The evening was so successful and atmospheric that it is considered a highlight in Alsfeld's event calendar. Not only the Night of Lights, but also increasingly popular festivals such as the “Illuminale” in Trier or the “Festival of Lights” in Berlin show how much light art and community spirit are valued, as adac.de reports.
While the city shone during the “Magic Night of Lights,” lights also lit up the streets in other European cities. Whether in Mainz, where students from the university created bright installations, or in Lódź, where the largest light festival in Poland is celebrated - the fascination with light art is also attracting more and more people in the region.
A look from a distance shows that the Alsfeld Night of Lights is not just a locally anchored festival, but part of a larger trend: Light festivals are attracting more and more visitors who discover them as a cultural experience for all generations. All of these highlights and the magic of this special night make it clear that light not only dispels darkness, but also brightens hearts.
