Rotenburg an der Fulda wins the 2025 cities and athletes meeting!

The 16th city and athlete meeting of the seven Rot(h)enburgs took place from June 20th to 22nd, 2025 in the picturesque setting of Rotenburg an der Fulda. An event that has celebrated the friendship between cities of the same name since 1979 and has grown steadily since 1990. Mayor Marcus Weber, the host of this year's meeting, was pleased about the lively participation and emphasized the importance of sport for solidarity.

The seven Rot(h)enburgs, including Rothenburg an der Oder, Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Rotenburg/Wümme, sent delegations to hold sporting competitions together. Around 350 athletes competed in the disciplines of handball, volleyball, football, basketball, table tennis, archery, shooting and other sports. With a colorful supporting program, spectators were also able to immerse themselves in the world of sport and take advantage of some introductory offers.

An unforgettable weekend

The atmosphere was characterized by joy and sporting ambition. The event started with a warm welcome party on Friday evening on the market square in Rotenburg, where numerous clubs from the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district took part. Saturday literally flickered with energy. The sporting competitions began at 10 a.m., with impressive performances being shown.

Saturday evening was introduced musically by the band “Wifelife”, which created an exuberant atmosphere in the castle park. The highlight of the evening was the award ceremony around 9 p.m., where the challenge cup was presented to the team from Rotenburg an der Fulda. The mayor celebrated this victory together with his colleagues and emphasized that this meeting is primarily about togetherness and having fun in sport, not just about winning.

Review and outlook

The city and athlete meeting has been bringing the different Rot(h)enburgs together for over four decades. The next event will take place in 2027. Interested athletes and Rotenburgers are invited to register for this event. Mayor Weber expressed the hope that good friendships will continue and the exchange between the cities will be maintained.

This year's meeting not only emphasized the sporting side, but also celebrated social cohesion and cultural diversity. The physical well-being of the participants was taken care of with bratwurst and cool drinks, which further underlined the friendly nature of the event.
