There is exciting news in Bad Hersfeld: The boathouse on the Fulda, which has been closed for two years, will soon reopen. The Bücking family, which already successfully runs a catering service in the city, has signed a long-term rental agreement with landlord Sami Erdinc. In doing so, they are sending a clear signal for a positive change in this historic place, which in the past has often had to contend with changes in tenants and even acts of vandalism.
The Bückings have big plans for the boathouse. An event location is planned that will not only be used for celebrations and conferences, but also for workshops and themed evenings. In the future, the boathouse will be a hotspot for barbecue events, show cooking and even for private weddings. A fixed restaurant day, probably on Mondays, with a small, fine menu is also planned. The family's existing catering business will remain unaffected and will continue to operate as usual.
Redesign and modernization
An important focus is also on modernizing the boathouse. It is currently still being used as a flea market by Harry Ghebru, but after the official opening the interior will be extensively renovated. The old deep fryer has to go, and the plan for the outdoor area is that the existing terrace will be dismantled and replaced with a new, larger terrace with a glass railing. These steps are part of the Bückings' commitment to not only redesign the boathouse as an inviting venue for events, but also to give it a modern touch.
Despite some skepticism and negative comments online about their planning, the Bückings are optimistic. They have enough confidence in their project and are convinced that their concept will appeal to the people in the region. At the moment they sometimes struggle with the availability of their employees, but they see the personnel concerns differently: They have a good hand in management and are ready to take on the challenge.
The boathouse has had a colorful history, and the Bücking family is determined to make it a new, vibrant place for the community. With a fresh concept and a clear focus on high-quality events and gastronomy, the boathouse could soon become a popular meeting place on the Fulda again.
