850,000 euros for Bebra: Modern fire station secures the future!
In Bebra, the heart of the fire department beats stronger than ever! On Monday afternoon, Interior Minister Roman Poseck handed over a funding notice for an impressive 850,000 euros for the construction of a new, ultra-modern fire station to Mayor Stefan Knoche. This support is part of a comprehensive 14 million euro project and is intended to better prepare the volunteer fire brigades in Bebra and its districts for operations. A good 290 firefighters are on duty here and are now well prepared for the challenges ahead.
The new fire apparatus will be built opposite the old building and offers space for ten emergency vehicles. But that's not all: the plan also includes a car wash, a fitness room and a modern hose workshop. This workshop is used inter-communally to clean hoses after use and to check their suitability. A significant plus for the safety of the fire brigade, especially through the installation of a fire alarm system that provides over 40 vehicle batteries.
Comprehensive features and challenges
The planned equipment for the new fire station is impressive. In addition to the vehicle hall, storage areas, workshops and social rooms with changing rooms and sanitary rooms are planned. A youth fire department room, a training room and a training tower will also help promote community and firefighter training. Minister Poseck emphasized the synergy effects of this extensive equipment and praised the cooperation between the various municipalities in order to ensure more effective emergency assistance.
However, the challenges remain. Despite the generous funding, implementing the project is a complex task for the city of Bebra. Knoche noted that the funding was well spent and the construction was designed for the next 40 years. After all: the Bebra fire department received three new vehicles in May 2025, and since 2021 the state government has supported fire protection in the region with over 1.2 million euros.
Commitment to fire and disaster protection
The funding currently granted is part of the state of Hesse's strong commitment to fire and disaster protection. The minister emphasized that Hesse only has 69 million euros available annually to support fire departments and that a total of 20 million euros have been earmarked for fire engines and houses throughout the state by 2025. This shows that the state's Frede guidelines for fire protection play a central role and are actually implemented with over 90% of the applications received. In the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district, over 2.3 million euros have been made available for ten vehicles and nine construction projects in the last two years.
A result that not only strengthens fire protection in Bebra, but also in many other parts of Hesse. As Poseck aptly noted, every euro invested in the fire service is a valuable investment in the safety of citizens. This proves: When the fire department calls, the country is there!
