Unforgettable excursion: 272 seniors conquer Hanau at the Festival of Generations!
On September 8, 2025, the city of Hünfeld held a special senior trip that took 272 seniors from the city and the surrounding communities to Hanau. Last Wednesday, the participants made their way to the picturesque Hanau-Wilhelmsbad State Park in six coaches.
A stopover at the Distelrasen car park near Schlüchtern promised a tasty start to the trip: breakfast here included sausage and cheese rolls. After a two-hour drive, the seniors were able to explore the state park or relax in the park's inn. Many took the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful park, while others awaited the planned boat tour on the Main.
A highlight on the Main
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the trip on the “Nautilus” towards Seligenstadt. A delicious lunch and a raffle awaited guests on board. Lucky fairy was particularly kind to Wolfgang Bämpfer, Astrid Krah, Ludmila Kout and Heinrich Peilstöcker, who were rewarded with the first prizes.
The atmosphere was particularly touching when Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok and First City Councilor Martina Sauerbier danced with the oldest participants, Edeltraud Reith (90 years old) and Erhard Aha (92 years old). Such moments not only strengthen the sense of community, but are also an expression of warm appreciation for older citizens.
A successful conclusion
After an eventful day, the trip came to its traditional conclusion in the old locomotive shed in Hünfeld. A rich buffet and cool drinks awaited the participants here. Mayor Tschesnok sent a heartfelt thank you to the helpers, including the DRK and representatives of the VR Bank, Sparkasse, Social Commission and city administration, without whom such an event would not be possible.
Anyone who wants to capture good memories at the event can look forward to: From September 8, 2025, 2 p.m., photos of the senior trip will be on display in the VR Bank on Rathausberg. Lists for reordering the photos are also available.
Commitment to seniors
In parallel to such events, Hanau is also looking for volunteer tour guides who can plan and accompany day trips, hikes or cultural trips for seniors. People who can offer barrier-free tours are particularly in demand. Those interested have the opportunity to register at seniorenbuero@hanau.de or call 06181/6682043 to find out more about this valuable activity and become part of a warm community.
There are also numerous offers for senior trips beyond the city limits. For example, SKR offers organized trips for people aged 70 and over, which take place in small groups and cover various destinations in Germany, Europe and beyond. The accompanied trips are ideal for solo travelers and promote contact with like-minded people who have a great desire to travel and curiosity. Further information can be found on the SKR website here.
