Last Saturday, November 1st, 2025, the 25th Gaalbern Cup took place in Hünfeld, an event that not only made the hearts of swimming enthusiasts beat faster, but was also a true celebration of the possibilities of Hessian swimming. A total of 12 Hessian swimming clubs and the Thuringian club SV Wartburgstadt Eisenach competed and attracted 218 swimmers, including 31 from SSV Hünfeld. These talented athletes completed a whopping 741 starts to prove their skills in a medal-worthy manner, reports Rhön Canal.
A very special highlight of the competition was that ten former competitive swimmers from SSV Hünfeld also competed. The Gaalbern Cup was last awarded to SSV Hünfeld 11 years ago, which made this year's competition even more remarkable. Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok took over the honor of the award ceremony, underlining the importance of this event for the community.
Rain of medals for Hünfeld
SSV Hünfeld was so strong in the competition that it was able to take first place in the overall team ranking with a total of 614 points. This was a close race as SSV Wartburgstadt Eisenach was just behind with 604 points. The second SSV Hünfeld could also be proud of its achievements, with a solid third place and 406 points.

SSV Hünfeld's medal haul was impressive: a total of 144 medals were won, including 59 gold, 49 silver and 36 bronze medals. Many of the swimmers were also able to set personal best times, which demonstrates the great form and commitment of the athletes.
Powerful swimmers
The performances of individual swimmers from performance group 1, who brought numerous medals to Hünfeld, were particularly outstanding:

 - Carolina Brommer-Quiroz: 2x Gold, 4x Silber, 2x Bronze
 - Finja Rausch: 3x Gold, 3x Silber, 2x Bronze

The achievements of the former swimmers were also impressive, including Janina Haider with 8 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze. Leonie Gensler and Tristan Kehr also contributed several medals to this remarkable event. In view of these successes, it is clear that the swimming culture in Hünfeld is deeply rooted.
The competition was made possible by a large team of volunteers whose commitment ensured that everything ran smoothly.
