Glimmer of hope in the battle for the premature baby: Chiara celebrates her first birthday!

Little Chiara has come a long way. Her parents, Stefanie Jährling and Christian Paglialonga, had to go through numerous fears during the pregnancy. There was constant bleeding and pain, and the doctors weren't sure whether the pregnancy would go well to term. In a time full of uncertainty, the family chose hope.

While looking for information about the survival chances of premature babies, Jährling came across inspiring reports about the excellent work at the Fulda Clinic, led by Prof. Dr. Reinald Repp. He even interrupted his vacation to help another premature baby, which deeply impressed Jahrling. However, after Chiara's birth in the 24th week of pregnancy, improvisation was required when the little girl became seriously ill and the clinic in southern Germany had little hope of improvement.

Professional help in Fulda

In an act of desperation, Jährling contacted Prof. Repp, who explained the situation clearly and honestly and offered the option of moving Chiara to Fulda. This decision turned out to be the right one. At the Fulda Clinic, the family received comprehensive medical care and emotional support from the entire team. The journalistic reporting by Osthessen News on the life-saving efforts in the clinic impressively shows how important this help was for the parents.

Chiara quickly developed trust in the doctors and nurses and learned to experience a bit of normality despite her serious illness. After almost half a year of hard fighting, the family was finally able to release Chiara without ventilation or medication. A real reason to be happy, because in a few weeks the little girl will celebrate her first birthday. Jährling is grateful and describes the hospital team as heroes who saved her child.

A look at the successes of the perinatal center

The Fulda Clinic has established itself as one of the best perinatal centers in Germany, as Klinikum Fulda reports. In addition to Chiara, there is Melina, who is considered one of the youngest surviving premature babies in the world. She was born on March 5, 2019 after just 21 weeks and 4 days pregnant and also had a long road ahead of her. Despite the difficulties that Melina had to overcome, she was successfully discharged from the hospital after 13 months. Her survival rate was remarkably high thanks to the clinical team's unique treatment strategies and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The clinic ranks first among 211 German centers in terms of survival rate without serious complications and second place with complications. These successes are not only due to modern technology, but also to the human care that parents and young patients receive. The senior physician Dr. med. Christian Weber emphasizes the importance of the first minutes after birth, while the ward manager, Ms. Krimm-Schätz, emphasizes the special bond between parents and newborn.

Chiara and Melina's stories impressively show what is possible with dedication and expertise in the medical field. A ray of hope in often dark times - not just for parents, but for society as a whole.
