Complete closure of the railway viaduct: construction work in Mitterode starts now!

There is a lot of construction going on in the region around Mitterode. Hessen Mobil has started work on district road 26 on behalf of the Werra-Meißner district, which will result in some changes to the traffic flow in the coming months. A first section was successfully completed in December 2024, while work on the second section has been underway since April 2023. The next construction site will open in the area of the railway viaduct from Monday, July 7, 2023, and the expansion work is planned to be completed by mid-August 2023, i.e. by the end of the summer holidays.

But we are not only spared the major construction site chaos in Mitterode. Hessen Mobil has also presented an extensive road construction plan for 2025, which includes a further 14 projects throughout the Werra-Meißner district. Four of these focus on federal roads, while seven projects are carried out on state roads and three are carried out on behalf of the Werra-Meißner district. However, the specific plans are still dependent on the adoption of the federal and state budgets and can therefore change at any time HNA informed.

Details about the construction projects

The planned measures on federal roads in 2025 include, among other things, the renewal of the roadway of the former B 7 between Oetmannshausen and the A 44 junction in Waldkappel, which is scheduled to last until autumn 2025. There are also renovations to be made in the Fürstenhagen through-road and on the B 400. The expansion of district road 26 to junction B 27 will also continue until the end of 2025.

The renovation offensive that Hesse is planning to renovate the many dilapidated state roads in the Werra-Meißner district by 2025 is also particularly important. Around 10 million euros are being made available for this, and a total of 15 state roads are to be renovated in 19 projects. The focus here is clearly on the motto “preservation before new construction”. Werra-Rundschau reported.

Traffic restrictions and please understand

The construction work on the railway viaduct in Mitterode is being carried out under full closure due to the narrow roadway width. The closures are scheduled Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. But don't worry, you can drive through the construction site outside of the closed times. Rescue and emergency services will have access at all times, so help can be there quickly even in difficult situations. Hessen Mobil asks all residents and road users to understand the restrictions.

The NVV contact points are available for questions about local public transport (ÖPNV). It remains to be seen whether the new projects will have the desired effect. However, the infrastructure will change significantly, creating both opportunities and challenges for residents and commuters.
