Queer youth in Werra-Meißner: Dream of a mobile meeting in danger!
The queer youth in the Werra-Meißner district have big plans: They are taking part in the “With People – Strong Together” competition run by the PSD-Bank Hessen-Thuringia. This was initiated by the committed leaders Rukin Tatli and Nico Heidl, who motivated the group to register directly for the competition. The goal is clear: a mobile youth meeting place and cultural events are to be financed with the possible prize money. However, Nico Heidl draws attention to a challenge that exists in the Werra-Meißner district: many young people do not have a driving license, which limits mobility and underlines the need for a mobile meeting place.
Support for the project comes through public votes on the competition website. In order to get to the final, the queer youth have to place themselves among the top 30 teams. In addition, the Mit-mensch Foundation supports young people who have difficulties starting their professional lives. The aim of the foundation is to promote self-help and solidarity and to offer young people who cannot find a school or training position a second chance. This important work is financed through donations and a profit-saving system. At the same time, saving profits means that every contribution is not only used for a lottery, but also makes a part available for social purposes, as shown on psdbank-ht.de is to be read.
A meeting place for everyone
The queer youth in the Werra-Meißner district is an offer from the Awo district association and serves as a meeting point for the local queer community. Exchange, networking and joint activities take place here. Anyone interested can get in touch via the Instagram page @queerejugendwmk. The group has organized various events in the past, including information events, training courses and cinema evenings. Also at the HOP! She took part in the State Youth Congress, which took place from November 4th to 6th, 2024, and celebrated its two-year anniversary with a gala on May 2nd.
Queer youth benefit enormously from the commitment of the Mit-mensch Foundation, which not only provides funds but also provides the opportunity to address and promote important social issues. The competition offers a total of 200,000 euros in funding, with 50,000 euros being awarded by the public and 150,000 euros by a jury from the PSD Bank. The demand for solidarity and subsidiarity is very important in order to ensure sustainable support for affected young people.
The final of the competition will take place from June 24th to 26th and the queer youth still have a lot to do until then. With her infectious enthusiasm and community involvement, her dream of a mobile youth center could be within reach. Further information about queer youth work can be found at queere-jugendarbeit.de.
