A dramatic traffic accident occurred on July 11, 2025 on federal highway 485 between Altwildungen and Giflitz in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. At around 8:45 p.m., a 50-year-old Toyota driver crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a bus belonging to the North Hessian Transport Association (NVV). Many questions remain unanswered because the exact cause of the accident is still unclear, as HNA reports.
The collision had serious consequences: the Toyota driver, who was traveling alone, as well as the 28-year-old bus driver and an 18-year-old passenger on the bus suffered serious injuries. All three were flown to nearby hospitals in rescue helicopters. Fortunately, the five other passengers on the bus were uninjured and were able to leave the bus on their own.
Damage and traffic disruptions
The collision caused significant property damage. The bus's windshield was shattered and both the bus and the SUV ended up in the ditch, with the SUV flipping over and ending up on its roof. Federal highway 485 had to be completely closed while the accident was being investigated, which led to significant traffic delays.
The investigation into the accident is being led by the Bad Wildungen police station. The emergency services are trying to clarify the exact circumstances and causes of the incident. According to Tagesschau, the rescue measures were also an important point for the other passengers on the bus in order to prevent anything worse from happening.
