Construction starts for Niederasphe wind farm: 12,500 households benefit!
The Niederasphe wind farm is taking shape! A wind farm is currently being built between the charming towns of Münchhausen, Niederasphe and Wollmar, which will supply around 12,500 households with green energy in the future. Construction has already begun on the first of five wind turbines, and the systems promise an impressive total output of 6 megawatts. This means an annual saving of around 21,500 tonnes of CO2 - a real step towards a more sustainable energy future, like HNA reports.
The hub height of the wind turbines is around 164 meters, while the total height including the rotor blade reaches an impressive 245 meters. The first wind turbine is scheduled to go into operation at the beginning of November 2025, while the full construction of all five turbines is scheduled to be completed by mid-September 2025. The last wind turbine will be installed by the beginning of November 2025, so that all systems should be operational by February 2026. In addition to the wind turbines, a new substation will be built to feed the energy generated into the public grid. Local support was relied upon, and the UKA groups commission local service providers, including Heinrich Naumann GmbH & Co. KG from Münchhausen, which also means an economic boost for the region.
Sustainability measures and support for communities
The wind farm not only replaces fossil energy, but also actively contributes to the avoidance of greenhouse gases that are harmful to the climate. According to the Federal Environment Agency, renewable energies, especially wind energy, are the most important players in the area of greenhouse gas avoidance. The Niederasphe wind farm will make up part of this positive balance.
But it's not just the environment that benefits: the communities of Münchhausen, Wetter and Battenberg receive annual donations of between 25,000 and 35,000 euros for each of the wind turbines. The total income flowing through the five wind turbines could reach up to 175,000 euros per year. These funds are available to communities to support local projects, be it purchasing new equipment for the volunteer fire department, modernizing playgrounds or supporting non-profit organizations and the community center.
Nature conservation and compensatory measures
Particularly noteworthy are the conservation measures taken to minimize the impact on nature. Comprehensive measures in accordance with the Federal Nature Conservation Act include, among other things, the creation of flower strips to promote species such as whinchats and skylarks as well as the installation of artificial nests for long-eared owls. A mowing shutdown is implemented to protect birds of prey during mowing. In addition, hedges and tall plants should be grown to distract birds from the wind farm area.
With all of these measures, the Niederasphe wind farm shows that it has a good knack for sustainability and local development. The communities involved should be able to use an environmentally friendly energy source in the future while supporting their local projects. A real benefit for people and nature!
