Exciting awards ceremony at the children's game at the Michaelmas Market in Treysa!
On November 18, 2025, Schwalmstadt-Treysa became the scene of a cheerful awards ceremony as part of the children's game for the Michaelmas Market. Organized by eight different clubs, Thomas Dickel, chairman of THW OV Schwalmstadt, led the overall coordination of the event. The active participation of associations such as the volunteer fire department, the DLRG and the city history working group underlined the great commitment to the local community.
A total of 42 children took part in the game, with 35 of them present for the prize giving. The event offered eight stations where the young participants could test their knowledge of safety and club work. Solving puzzles and finding errors in pictures were also part of the program, so there was something for everyone. This not only ensured fun, but also learning important topics.
A variety of prizes for the little winners
The award ceremony was a highlight of the afternoon, with the children receiving vouchers for book and toy stores as well as a day at the Europabad for their efforts. They were also rewarded with practical prizes including high-visibility vests, notebooks, hats, caps, spreads and thermos bottles. A real treat for the little winners!
Anyone who was unable to be present due to other commitments has the opportunity to pick up their prizes at the “GrieWerk” unpackaged store on the market square in Treysa. This means that all children can enjoy their earnings.
A look into Treysa's dark history
In parallel to the fun activities, thematic tours also recently took place in Treysa. The city history working group organized a lantern tour that focused on the city's dark history. On January 11, 2025, participants learned about murder cases, gangs of thieves and witch trials. Florian Kristen entertained the guests and gave an insight into the gruesome events of yesteryear, as documented in the court records.
Did you know that in 1609, Jost Schröder, the mayor's son-in-law, experienced two break-ins in his half-timbered house? In search of answers, he consulted a fortune teller who was ultimately able to convict three perpetrators. These, as well as the associated witch trials, not only delight those interested in history and create an impressive picture of Treysa's past that extends into the vaulted cellars of the old town.
The next city tour will take place on May 24, 2025 and offers an exciting look into the vaulted cellars below the old town. Anyone interested can find out more on the website of the city history working group or at the Rotkäppchenland tourism service.
Such events show how diverse and lively club life is in Schwalmstadt-Treysa. Committed citizens and associations help ensure that both the history and the future of our community remain alive.
