Record number of registrations: Oberurff impresses with its new school concept!
There is great interest in the Christophorusschule Oberurff, where there have already been record registrations for the fifth grade in the run-up to the coming school year. 204 children have enrolled for the 2025/2026 school year. But the school can only accommodate 151 students, which is the highest number of enrollments in the institution's history. The educational director Nils Schnetzler points to the limited spatial capacities, which are partly responsible for the enormous demand. This development promises exciting insights into the future of educational offerings in the region.
A key reason for the lively interest is the innovative school concept “i.Do”, which has been in practice at the Christophorusschule since the 2024/25 school year. This concept relies on individual learning processes, supported by modern digital technologies such as iPads and other digital tools. This encourages students to work independently. Finally, personal development and social cohesion also remain the focus of lessons, which is important to many parents.
The i.Do concept in detail
The i.Do concept is characterized by individualized learning. Each student receives a parent-financed iPad of the latest generation, which serves as a central learning tool. This model is efficient for both the students and the school because it offers standardized equipment and therefore costs remain manageable. Digitalization is not seen here as an end in itself, but as a tool to promote learning progress. Digital platforms also document students’ progress and offer valuable feedback.
It is also important that, despite technical progress, classic writing with pen and paper is not pushed into the background. Social forms of learning, cooperative projects and community activities, for example during school trips or in sports lessons, round off the educational offering. The school has shown a “good hand” by implementing alternative exam formats and continuous learning support instead of traditional homework.
Perspectives on school development
The introduction of the i.Do concept also fits into a larger context of digital school development. According to the website Bildungs.digital, modern education is essential, with a binding competency framework for “skills in the digital world” playing a central role. This strategy defines various areas of competence that are intended to support schools in modernizing their teaching and aligning it with the requirements of the digital future.
The Christophorusschule sets standards here by integrating the acquisition of these digital skills into everyday school life. The school development process is constantly developed through feedback from parents, students and teachers. A comprehensive media education concept is also used, which serves as a tool for school development and is necessary to establish contemporary pedagogical concepts.
In view of the high number of registrations, the Christophorusschule is also planning a new learning center that is specifically tailored to the i.Do concept. This project underlines the school's commitment to meeting the needs of students and continually improving its educational offerings.
The lively interest in the Christophorusschule Oberurff and the positive response to the i.Do concept show that future-oriented, digital school education is very popular. It will be exciting to see how developments continue.
