Stop the hospital sale in Melsungen: parliamentary groups get involved!

In Melsungen there is a discussion about the sale of the former hospital on Kasseler Strasse. The city plans to sell the building to Erdal Eren, a local physiotherapist whose concept for using the area was awarded the contract. But different political factions are now providing a breath of fresh air and are calling for the sales process to be stopped for the time being. How WLZ Online reported, the Greens, FWG and the CDU are requesting that the sale be stopped or even reversed in order to examine alternatives.

The focus of the demands is the establishment of a working group that should consist of members of the municipal council and parliamentary group leaders of the city council. The aim is to transparently inform Melsung citizens about the status of the negotiations and to carry out a thorough analysis of the situation. The general conditions have changed significantly since the state of Hesse announced that the requirements for an intersectoral health center (IGZ) were not met.

Healthy future for the old hospital

But what is actually planned for the building? The sale of the old hospital is part of a comprehensive utilization concept aimed at healthcare services. Plans include, among other things, physiotherapeutic offers, short-term and day care as well as rooms for a kindergarten. These ideas are viewed by the city administration as promising for the future HNA holds on. The buyer, Erdal Eren, had offered 300,000 euros for the building, which was significantly lower than a competitor's offer, but was accepted due to the convincing usage concept.

The usage concept includes 21 therapy rooms for various therapeutic applications. Course rooms, waiting rooms, offices and a cafeteria will also be planned. However, critics criticize the city's moves, which made decisions behind closed doors without involving the city council. Against this background, the CDU is planning to inspect the files in order to gain more clarity about the award process, while the Greens have already tried to postpone the vote.

Political challenges and future decisions

The next crucial meeting of the city council is already coming up: on July 1st, a decision will be made on the application to stop the sale. While the FDP vehemently rejects the proposal and emphasizes that democratic decisions require reliability, the SPD parliamentary group has not yet taken a final position, but is fundamentally behind the city council's decision.

However, for Erdal Eren, who is aiming to complete the sale quickly, a delay in the process could result in financial disadvantages because his planning has already been completed. Implementation of the concept could begin soon after the contract is signed. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how the political discussion and the public meeting in Kirchhof will go.

Overall, it is clear that there is a lot of movement going on in Melsungen, and the issue surrounding the old hospital will continue to make waves both in terms of health and politics.
