A rumor is currently haunting the town of Hofgeismar: The cattle market parade could possibly be canceled in 2026 because there is a lack of suitable vehicles. But the chairman of the livestock market working group, Michael Reiter, is firmly opposed to this. He confirms that the parade will take place not only in 2026, but also in 2027 to mark the 75th anniversary of the livestock market. Reiter is optimistic and emphasizes the planning of a large parade that will continue the tradition of the popular event. It is also noted that security measures have been revised to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
As HNA reports, there was already an extensive security concept in the past that included tractors and concrete blocks. This was no longer absolutely necessary following a decree from the Ministry of the Interior. The organizers are now working on a new concept that was developed with the city, the public order office and the police. Vehicles are largely avoided here; instead, there are alternative traffic regulations. These changes were received positively by many participants.
The cattle market as a tradition
In 2023, the city of Hofgeismar will celebrate its 800th anniversary and the cattle market is an integral part of these celebrations. According to OWZ, the parade should take place on June 4th and stimulate creative ideas for floats and walking groups. The organizers hope for active participation from clubs, associations and schools from Hofgeismar. As in previous years, the organizers are looking forward to a large turnout, despite adverse weather conditions, as already experienced in 2022.
Visitor numbers at the livestock market have been a positive surprise, particularly during the 70th anniversary, which was extended to five days. This tradition attracts numerous visitors year after year and is of great importance to the local community.
