Blood donation in Hesse: How to ensure supply for everyone!
In Hesse, the blood supply is in a stable state in June 2025. The German Red Cross (DRK) has determined that there are sufficient stocks of all blood groups to cover daily needs. Around 14,000 units of blood are needed every day to care for patients who need to be treated after accidents, operations or serious illnesses. However, despite this stability, only around 3% of the population donates blood regularly, which further underlines the importance of blood donation.
There are numerous opportunities for Hessian citizens to show their own commitment and become life savers. Any healthy adult between the ages of 18 and 68 can donate blood several times a year. The waiting time and effort are manageable: the actual donation only takes about 5 to 10 minutes, followed by a small refreshment and a 10-minute rest break.
Current blood donation dates in Hesse
If you would like to help in Frankfurt am Main, Wiesbaden or Dieburg, you should note the next blood donation dates in your calendar:
- Frankfurt am Main: Saalbau Bornheim, 15:30 – 20:00 Uhr am kommenden Donnerstag.
- Wiesbaden: Mehrzweckhalle, 01.07.2025, 16:00 – 20:00 Uhr.
- Dieburg: Römerhalle, 20.06.2025, 16:30 – 20:30 Uhr.
If you consider the compatibility of blood groups, it becomes clear that certain groups are particularly in demand. Blood groups 0 negative and A negative are considered universally applicable. Blood group 0, which does not contain antigens, is particularly valuable because it is compatible with other groups. However, donors in this group can only receive blood from other 0 donors. Rhesus negative donors are on the safe side with their Pinkus as their donations are compatible with many recipients.
The challenge of blood donation
Although the need for blood supplies is high every day, there are numerous hurdles that stand in the way of regular donation. A fifth of all blood preparations are used for cancer patients, while many donors have too little knowledge about the importance of donation. Uncertainty about the tolerability of donations and the lack of information also contribute to the low donor rate. It is therefore all the more important that more people are made aware of the importance of blood donation.
The blood group stocks are currently not in the critical range, but it can still be seen that blood group A+ has the lowest capacity with only 80% capacity. All those who feel healthy are called upon to make an appointment to donate blood.https://www.news.de/amp/gesundheit/858427733/blutspendetermine-16-06-2025-in-hessen-blutspenden-fuer-alle-blutgruppen-aktuelle-drk-blutspende-termine-in-frankfurt-am-main-wiesbaden-und-dieburg/1/
