Aquarium friends Baunatal celebrate 50 years – modernization is enthusiastic!
The Baunatal Aquarium Friends celebrated their 50th anniversary last weekend and not only looked back on the club's eventful history, but also presented the newly renovated club rooms. The association was founded in 1975 with the ambitious goal of promoting aquarium keeping in the region. Initially there were 40 aquariums in the environmental station of the Theodor Heuss School that were used for the first activities. The association has now developed into a specialist association that organizes its own exhibition and regular meetings. [HNA].
The club's history is not only characterized by successes, but also by challenges. In 1992, the club experienced a flood that flooded the basement and caused damage worth around 61,000 marks. The reconstruction was carried out through a large number of donations and the committed cooperation of the members, as honorary chairman Gerhard Plettenberg emphasizes. The support of the city of Baunatal also played a crucial role during this time of crisis.
A new beginning in a modern guise
The current modernization of the club rooms includes, among other things, new aquarium cladding and a complete renewal of the electrical system. Uwe Geldsetzer, the first chairman, sees this redesign not only as a step into the future, but also as a new beginning for the club, which presents itself with the most modern equipment and fresh commitment. The open day served not only to show off the new premises, but also to stimulate interest in aquarium keeping and possibly attract new members.
Visitors had the opportunity to marvel at various aquarium landscapes, including biotopes from the North Sea, the Mediterranean, Asia and even tropical regions. This diverse presentation not only appeals to the hearts of aquarium enthusiasts, but also offers insights into the fascinating underwater world. The club can currently look back on a committed membership of 44 who are passionate about aquarium keeping.
Insight into the club's history
The Baunatal aquarium association has undergone impressive development over the course of five decades. From the early days in the environmental station of the Theodor Heuss School to parades and exciting club trips to today's complex aquarium systems - all of this is part of a living history. A youth group was founded back in 1982, and regular events such as lectures and joint trips to zoos and aquariums enrich club life. Aquarienverein Baunatal documents numerous milestones that underline the development of the association.
The anniversary is not only a reason to celebrate, but also a worthy opportunity to pass on the enthusiasm for aquarium keeping and win new colleagues. The Baunatal Aquarium Friends show that community, passion and commitment are still very important today - and that is reason enough to look back proudly on the club's history and to start into the future with fresh courage.
