Plant development shows gratifying progress in Germerode, while the poppy fields in Grandenborn remain a bit due to the dryness. The flowering period is expected to continue until the end of June or early July, so that nature and hiking lovers can still enjoy the beauty of this natural spectacle for some time. A real highlight are the two to three and a half kilometers of poppy seed hiking trails, which were specially created for walkers. There are other amenities such as photo points, information boards as well as seating and lying benches. The Augsburg Allgemeine emphasizes that a poppy cinema has also been set up that during the day about a 20-minute film about the poppy blossom and the region shows.
tradition and harvest time
The poppy blossom not only has a visual charm, but also deep rooting in the region and is closely connected to the fairy tale figure Ms. Holle. This tradition is underlined by the continuing popularity of the poppy seeds in the region. From the planned harvest, which is to take place from mid -August after the hiking trails are dismantled, a yield is expected between 500 and 1,000 kilograms of poppy seeds per hectare. About 10 % of the harvest are processed into oil, the rest are used in the kitchen, for baked goods, ice cream and even in soaps.
If you want to visit the poppy fields, you can look forward to a real color explosion. In Germerode, two types of poppy seeds are already in full bloom, while the fields in Grandenborn will only be split their splendor on June 20. On Ms. Holle's website you can also learn that the blooming fields are ideally equipped with resting benches and straw -torn paths so that visitors can experience the poppy blossoms very close. This beautiful time in the Geo-Naturpark Frau-Holle-Land offers an outstanding opportunity to enjoy nature and spend relaxing hours away from everyday life.
