Severe weather warning for Frankfurt: Storm, heavy rain and thunderstorms are threatening!

Today, July 14, 2025, the German Weather Service (DWD) is causing a lot of excitement in the Hesse region. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are on the horizon, which will primarily affect Frankfurt and the surrounding districts. The warnings are active until the evening, more precisely until 7 p.m., in the Odenwald district and the Bergstrasse district, while the thunderstorm warnings for Rhine-Main and southern Hesse have been extended until 6 p.m. The districts of Wetterau, Main-Kinzig, Offenbach, as well as Frankfurt itself, Groß-Gerau, Darmstadt-Dieburg and the Odenwald are particularly affected.

What can we expect? In southern Hesse, particularly in Frankfurt, forecasts were issued for heavy rain of between 15 and 25 liters per square meter per hour. There can also be strong gusts of wind with speeds of up to 60 km/h. Thunderstorm activity will increase from midday onwards and even storms with heavy rain of up to 30 liters per square meter and hail with grain sizes of up to 3 cm cannot be ruled out. The severe weather center has issued various warnings, which experts are continually adapting, and points out the need to avoid outdoor activities and seek safe buildings, especially for drivers, who should reduce their speed in heavy rain. [Severe Weather Center] also provides information on all weather hazards that currently exist in Germany.

Outlook for the next few days

What's next? Unstable weather with further showers and thunderstorms is forecast for Tuesday, with maximum temperatures between 20 and 28 degrees. Changeable weather will also accompany us on Wednesday, with frequent showers and thunderstorms as well as temperatures that will be between 18 and 23 degrees. But there are already signs of a positive change for Thursday: with changing clouds and temperatures between 18 and 25 degrees, we could enjoy a touch of summer again.

So be ready for what's to come! The weather experts do not give the all-clear because the warning situation can be continuously updated. A look at platforms like [NDR] provides information about the individual warning levels and saves all current severe weather warnings for the districts. The first signs of possible storms can already appear in color on the maps and change during the day.

The storm situation is a serious issue; therefore, all residents in these affected regions should remain vigilant. Follow the recommendations and stay safe, no matter how dramatic the weather gets!
