The tour of hope: cycling for children with cancer in Hesse!
When the "tour of hope" goes to the streets of Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate in August, many hearts will make hearts for a good cause. From 7th to 10th of August 2025, 150 participants cycle through the region to collect donations for children with cancer and their families as well as for cancer research. The campaign now has a long tradition and is already held for the 42nd time. Over the decades, the tour has developed into one of the most important charity events in Germany, such as tour-der-hoffung.de
The first stage leads the cyclists from the Stadtwerke Gießen to the children's oncology of the University Hospital of Gießen-Marburg (UKGM) and thus represents a central point of contact for the support of children with cancer. On Friday, August 8th, a 85-kilometer route will be placed through the Wetterau, with stop in Friedberg and Butzbach, before it continues from further city via Darmstadt and Bensheim on Saturday Ludwigshafen-Oggersheim goes. The entire route comprises around 240 kilometers and attracts not only committed drivers, but also many supporters.
a success story in numbers
Last year, the tour could collect impressive 1.32 million euros in donations. These funds flow directly into the support of 25 children's clinics and similar facilities in Germany. All costs of the tour are borne by sponsors, so that the donations benefit 100% of the beneficiary. A success story that is impressive: In over 40 years, the tour of hope has collected over 40 million euros. This is truly a sum that works!
The idea for the tour was launched in 1983 by Fritz Lampert and since then the participants have not gone away from their bicycles in the summer to collect donations for children and adolescents with cancer. This central mission is supported by numerous partners and sponsors. For example, around thirty companies from South Hesse have contributed over 100,000 euros to this valuable work in the past nine years, such as the website of the Association for Cancer and Chronically ill children (VKKD)
prominent faces at the top
When the tour breaks out, there are also some prominent faces on board. For 2025, Ski jumper Stephan Leyhe, the former soccer player Markus Merk as well as the actors Yemisi Magdalena Ogunleye and Johann von Bülow made themselves available as supporters. Your commitment not only brings attention, but also motivates many people to participate in the campaign.
in a country where a good thing is very popular, the "tour of hope" is an integral part of. The anticipation for the upcoming tour is growing and we are sure that the hearts and wallets will be opened far this time.
