Butzbach's coolest retreats: discover refreshment!
In Butzbach, where temperatures are currently rising to a remarkable 33 degrees Celsius, it remains a challenge to survive the summer cool. The midday hours on the market square are particularly demanding for citizens. The city has provided a practical solution for this: a digital one Map of cool places. This features shady areas and air-conditioned interiors, creating welcome refreshment for everyone.
The author of our editorial team looked at a few of these cool retreats in Butzbach and found that the city museum offers a more pleasant 26.8 degrees Celsius. In the foyer of the museum you can not only enjoy the cool air, but also marvel at Roman artifacts, including an interesting lounger. But that's just the beginning. In the Römerkeller, a charming part of the old building, it is only 19.6 degrees, making it the ideal place to escape the sun.
From culture to cooling
Another destination was the Gothic St. Mark's Church, where it is still a pleasant 24 degrees. Here the author had the pleasure of observing deanery cantor Uwe Krause at the organ, who not only contributed to the cooling but also shared knowledge about the organ and how it works. Next the route led to the city library in the community center, where the temperatures are 28 degrees. A friendly librarian had a special book tip ready: an exciting work about Antarctica - not just for cold days!
There was a little cooling off in between in the pleasure garden of the castle park, where at 29 degrees there were tempting ice cream flavors that city visitors tasted fresh. The Map of cool places not only provides an overview of the best places, but also allows citizens to enter their own favorites, which will be added to the list after checking. In this way, everyone becomes a small co-creator in Butzbach.
Nature for the future
But it's not just refreshment in midsummer that's on the city's agenda. On December 9, 2025, the tree planting campaign “Butzbach plants!” will take place in Butzbach. take place. This initiative is part of the city's climate protection concept and aims to reforest the Butzbach Forest, which has been damaged by climate change.

Here, citizens can actively help and plant tree seedlings of chestnuts, gray alders, mountain ash, sand birch and whitebeams themselves. These tree species serve as the basis for a climate-stable mixed forest that provides important ecosystem services.
Anyone who would like to take part should be prepared with a garden spade, good shoes and work gloves. The seedlings will be made available on the day of the campaign and the cost of 5 euros per tree can be credited to an account in advanceSparkasse Oberhessenbe transferred.
