Future of Village Life: Workshop on Designing Public Spaces!

In Ebersgöns it will soon be about designing public spaces! A public workshop will take place in Haus Siloah on July 1, 2025 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The city of Butzbach has joined forces with the architectural firm blfp from Friedberg to involve citizens in the development of public meeting places. This initiative is an important step in discussing the future use and design of places such as the bakery, the old school, the village community center with daycare center and the Siloah House of the Protestant church community. Participation in this event is possible without registration and is aimed at all interested residents of Ebersgöns.

What are the goals of this workshop? The aim is to collect local needs and get suggestions for further planning. The focus is on the ideas and commitment of the villagers. Citizens are perceived as experts in their own field, which also reflects the spirit of citizen participation that other projects in the region pursue. How rural-space.sachsen.de reported, villagers should be actively involved in the planning in order to increase acceptance of subsequent decisions and to identify conflicts at an early stage.

Shaping a shared future

The desire for greater influence on the design of the living environment is obvious. This is also due to examples such as the protests against large construction projects in Germany, which make it clear how important citizen participation is. Engaging citizens at an early stage can not only promote understanding but also bring long-term cost savings. You can use proven methods that are explained in the practice-oriented “Citizen Participation Method Manual”. It presents various techniques for planning and implementing participation processes, which should also be helpful using Ebersgön as an example. Information about the manual can be found at network-democracy-and-participation.de.

The event on July 1, 2025 offers the community the opportunity to take up the ideas of its citizens and thus actively shape the future of Ebersgön. Participants can express their ideas and wishes in an open and informal atmosphere.

It is clear in the region that citizen participation is not just a slogan, but a necessity that should be taken seriously. With this workshop, the city of Butzbach shows how important it is to hear the voices of citizens and integrate their ideas into the design of the place. A real benefit for the village community!
