Fire brigade and books: Butzbacher kids discover their city!

An eventful reading afternoon for the little ones recently took place at the Butzbach fire department instead of. As part of a cooperation between the Democratic Party of the City of Butzbach and the Kaiser Foundation, children between the ages of 4 and 6 were invited to discover the world of reading and hear exciting stories about the fire service. The event, which was fully booked, attracted around 20 small participants and their families.

Dr. Annette Gümbel from the Kaiser Foundation and Dr. Andrea Soboth from Democratikum warmly welcomed the young readers. The Butzbach fire department not only offered the children exciting stories, but also the opportunity to look behind the scenes. Reading and literature teacher Claudia Lang told, among other things, the story about Finn, the fireman's moose, and explained the enthusiasm for books.

An unforgettable insight into the fire department

At this unique event, the little ones were allowed to explore the fire department's operations center and changing area. The firefighters Stefan Sohn, Manuela Schneider and Andrea Bergens supported the children with advice and support. They showed the young visitors the various vehicles and equipment with great commitment. A special highlight was the refreshing cool down that Stefan Sohn provided for the children on this hot day.

The focus wasn't just on reading aloud; A lot of interesting information about the fire department and its operations was also conveyed. Another important goal of the campaign was to introduce the children to the important places in Butzbach and to promote their understanding of how the city works.

The importance of promoting reading

The focus on promoting reading plays a crucial role. Good reading skills are not only the basis for education, but also important for active participation in social life. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research emphasizes that good reading skills are key skills for success in school and later in life. Projects like “Lesestart 1-2-3” show how important early reading support is in order to give children, regardless of their social background, access to the world of reading.

Further events are already planned for the future, including in the Butzbacher Forest and at Münzenberg Castle. In addition to teaching reading skills, the Reallabor Democratikum also aims to make democracy tangible. Such initiatives not only awaken a love of reading, but also create awareness of one's surroundings.
