Defeat for Bad Nauheim: Coach criticizes goal tally!
Sports weeks with ups and downs: EC Bad Nauheim suffered two bitter defeats at the weekend. On Friday the team lost 2-1 to Regensburg, despite an impressive 40 shots on goal. Justin MacPherson scored the Red Devils' only goal shortly after Regensburg made it 2-0. Regensburg made better use of their chances and grabbed the full three points. Coach Peter Russell also found positive words for his team, even if the result was not the desired one. “The performance is good, despite the defeats,” said Russell, who looks courageously to the future.
Sunday didn't bring much change as Bad Nauheim lost again 1:3 against Rosenheim. Scott Feser scored the so-called empty-netter in the final phase, while Zach Kaiser was the only upset from Bad Nauheim's perspective when he forced a goal. Despite another good 36 shots on goal, there was a lack of efficiency: “Only two goals from 80 shots,” Russell criticized the results of his protégés. Managing director Andreas Ortwein also spoke of the need to organize the first third better in order not to fall behind in the highly competitive DEL2.
The situation in the team
Before the upcoming German Cup break, EC Bad Nauheim still has two more tricky games ahead of them against Kaufbeuren and Freiburg. The players seem to have been warned as these teams have proven to be strong defensively. Especially in the current phase, it is important to break through the opponent's defenses.
There is also a bit of movement in squad planning. Kevin Handschuh is currently on a “tryout contract” and discussions about a possible extension are ongoing. Meanwhile, assistant coach Marc Vorderbrüggen has health problems and is temporarily replaced by Adam Mitchell. The temporary coaching team is supported by Henry Wellhausen, who has been there since August. A decision about the coaching position is also pending, which is causing excitement in the team.
Fans and outlook
The fans are excited to see how the men around coach Russell will perform. They are hoping for a turnaround and to pick up the points in the coming games. The pressure is clearly on the shoulders of the team who want to free themselves from the current situation. They want to turn things around and not let the last two defeats get them down. A good hand in the upcoming games would be exactly what Bad Nauheim needs!
For all the girls and boys who want to get excited while watching the games: Let's keep our fingers crossed that Bad Nauheim can break out of the downward spiral soon! More information about the games can be found in regular updates on the FNP.
