Bad Nauheim presents a new draft for municipal heat planning in order to achieve climate-neutral energy supply by 2045.

Bad Nauheim is planning a climate-neutral heat supply – your right to have a say counts!
In the charming town of Bad Nauheim, which is picturesquely located on the eastern edge of the Taunus and is considered the second largest town in the Hesse Wetterau district, something is happening in the area of heat supply. Starting next Monday, July 14th, the city's citizens will be able to view the new draft of the municipal heat planning, which will be available both online and in the town hall until August 29th. As the Frankfurter Neue Presse reported, the draft consists of 115 pages and offers everyone the opportunity to comment.
Municipal heat planning is a central part of the city's climate protection concept, which aims to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions that are harmful to the climate. In collaboration with greenventory and the Bad Nauheim municipal utilities, Bad Nauheim will strive for a CO2-neutral and self-sufficient energy supply. Mayor Klaus Kreß emphasizes that the city wants to proactively shape the heating transition and that citizens should be actively involved in this process.
Goals and approaches of heat planning
One of the main goals of this heat planning is to make better use of local energy sources. A total of nine suitable areas for heating networks were identified, including the Sprudelhof, the Taubenbaum industrial area and the Ernst-Ludwig-Schule. There are also individual supply areas, while alternative solutions must be found for the districts of Nieder-Mörlen, Schwalheim, Steinfurth and Wisselsheim.
The plan names brine, wastewater, geothermal energy, solar thermal energy, wood chips, as well as waste heat from the sewage treatment plant and industrial waste heat as possible local energy sources. In view of the current situation in which 80% of households in Bad Nauheim use fossil heating systems, mainly natural gas, the goal of obtaining at least 65% from renewable energies when purchasing new heating systems in heating network areas is an important step.
What does the future hold?
The forecasts for 2045 show ambitious goals: According to the plans, 21.5% of buildings could be supplied via heating networks by then. For households, a potential of 49.6% for air source heat pumps and 10.5% for geothermal heat pumps is expected. The use of wood pellets could also play a role in 18.3% of buildings. A good mix that puts Bad Nauheim on the right course when it comes to the challenges of climate change.
It is expected that the city council will decide on the resolution on municipal heat planning in October. In order to bring the content and goals closer to citizens, a citizen information event will take place on Saturday, August 23rd. This underlines that the city of Bad Nauheim not only stands on its own two feet, but is ready to demonstrate a good hand for the future.
If you want to stay up to date, you should keep your eyes open! These developments are not only good for the climate, but also for the future quality of life in Bad Nauheim.
