Hot weekend in Offenbach: Up to 36 degrees and risk of thunderstorms!

Today, June 20, 2025, the sky over Hesse is bright blue. The German Weather Service (DWD) has predicted a remarkable heat wave for the coming weekend. After a sunny Friday with temperatures between 24 and 29 degrees, people are looking forward to Saturday, the longest day of the year. Values of over 31 degrees can be expected throughout the Rhine-Main area, with up to 17 hours of sunshine.

In the night from Saturday to Sunday the weather remains friendly with mild temperatures of around 17 degrees in the big cities. In the mountainous regions the thermometer could even drop to 8 degrees. The only downside: there is a risk of local showers or thunderstorms in the northwest on Sunday evening. Heavy rain and squalls cannot be ruled out, with temperatures falling to a bearable 15 to 19 degrees.

High pressure influence causes summer heat

On Saturday the heat load in Hesse will be further increased by a strong influence of high pressure. The DWD predicts consistently beautiful and precipitation-free weather for the region, especially in the Rhine-Main area the 32 degree mark could even be exceeded. These temperatures had already been seen as significantly more stressful for the population, especially for vulnerable groups in urban areas.

The weather situation is part of a larger development: climate change has Germany firmly under control. According to a report by daily news Many regions are increasingly suffering from heat waves, flash floods and extreme weather phenomena. This also has a direct impact on the population, especially in metropolitan areas such as Frankfurt or Offenbach, where temperatures are often uncomfortably high on these summer nights.

Climate change as a challenger

The latest data shows that 2024 was the warmest year on record. As Tobias Fuchs from the DWD explained, the extreme weather conditions that are now considered normal arose under the influence of climate change. From heatwaves to increased rainfall, the increase in these extreme weather events presents a challenge that we must take seriously.

Agriculture and transport are also affected; both landslides and floods are commonplace. In view of these developments, climate protection measures must be urgently pursued. Every tenth of a degree of global warming avoided could be crucial in mitigating the consequences that are already looming.

The DWD forecast should be kept in mind, as it promises another alternation of sunshine and precipitation on Monday after the hot weekend. Here we can expect temperatures to rise again to up to 27 degrees. So it remains exciting to see how the weather in Hesse will develop further.
