Blitz week in the Offenbach district: start speed controls!
In the coming week, road users in the Offenbach district and in the Main-Kinzig-Kreis may prepare for increased speed controls. The traffic directorate has announced that it will carry out speed measurements at various points. There are particularly critical traffic routes in the focus, which often lead to game accidents or other incidents.
The planned measurements are set for the following days and places:
- 07.07.2025: Klein-Krotzenburg, L 2310 in the direction of travel B45 (game accident haul track)
- 08.07.2025: Offenbach, B 459 from the Geisfeldkreisel in the direction of the Ründung Offenbach (accident center)
- 07/09/2025: Hanau, Pfaffenbrunnenstraße (near kindergarten)
- 07/10/2025: Bad Soden-Salmünster, L 3178 in the direction of Mernes (speed and wild accident haul track)
- 11.07.2025: Erlensee, K 854 in the direction of Erlensee (speed hazard route)
In addition, from July 7th to 14th, a mobile speed trailer will be set up in Hanau-Steinheim in order to further monitor the traffic situation. The use of the trailer should indicate the dangers when driving at the permitted speed.
Why speed controls are important
The increase in traffic safety is the focus of these controls. As an analysis from Berlin shows, speed limits, in particular speed 30, can have significant effects. In around 80 percent of the cases, the middle speeds fell considerably after the introduction of km / h. Not even a structural intervention is necessary to calm traffic. The evidence suggests that such measures can ensure more security and less noise in urban areas. This could also apply to the controls in Hesse, where accidents in the vicinity of dangerous bodies can often occur, as the traffic directorate states.
The Federal Environment Agency has carried out similar investigations and confirms that km / hen not only reduces the number of traffic accidents, but also has a positive effect on the air quality and quality of life of the residents. Especially in cities that have already introduced speed 30 across the board, the figures on the traffic fatalities have dropped significantly. In a report, it is underlined that in cities such as Brussels and in many French cities, the introduction of such speed limits has been associated with a drastic reduction in traffic fatalities.
common responsibility for security
The discussion about speed limits is therefore very up -to -date, and the controls carried out by the traffic directorate are an important element in an effort for more traffic safety. The German Association of Cities and Municipalities and various environmental organizations are increasingly supporting the idea of giving cities more scope for speed regulations. In the future, this could lead to a variety of further speed 30 zones, especially in particularly stressed areas where noise and pollutants affect the quality of life.
The next few days will show how the measures of the traffic directorate in the Offenbach district and the Main-Kinzig district arrive and whether road users can develop a better understanding of the need for speed controls. Because one thing is clear: security in road traffic affects all of us.
