Mushroom paradise in the Main-Kinzig district: reader photos wanted!

Autumn not only brings colorful leaves, but also an abundance of mushrooms in the forests of the Main-Kinzig district. Reiner Pospischil took impressive photos of different types of mushrooms that reflect the beauty and diversity of this colorful autumn. The porcini mushrooms are particularly popular and are very popular with mushroom pickers. “The Main-Kinzig district is so beautiful” readers can also submit their own photos and help shape the autumn image of the region. If you want, you can also send the editorial team feedback or notable observations in the district in order to keep the local mushroom activity alive during this season, as Vorsprung Online reports.

What is the mushroom community in Hesse experiencing? On October 18, 2025, Andrea and Julius went on an exploration tour to the porcini mushroom forest in the Darmstadt district and discovered a considerable number of porcini mushrooms. They deliberately left the older specimens in the forest to support spore formation. Their discovery comes at the right time, as rain is forecast for the coming week, which could benefit the mushroom harvest. These weather-related glimmers of hope make many mushroom pickers optimistic and are the reason why they are particularly active today, as Passion Mushroom Collecting reports.

On the same day, Tobias reported on his own porcini mushroom places in Darmstadt-Eberstadt, where he was able to get a nice harvest of birch mushrooms and chanterelles. Other collectors don't miss out either: Thomas from Weiterstadt found an entire family of porcini mushrooms on October 16th, supplemented by several chestnut mushrooms. On October 14th, Tobias noticed that the mushroom season was approaching its peak and also found magnificent porcini mushrooms.

  • Tobias (18. Oktober 2025): Steinpilze, Birkenpilze und Pfifferlinge in Darmstadt-Eberstadt.
  • Thomas (16. Oktober 2025): Steinpilzfamilie und Maronenröhrlinge in Weiterstadt.
  • Thomas (14. Oktober 2025): Herrliche Steinpilze im Odenwald.

There is also no shortage of finds in the Odenwald and Spessart. Jörn and Charlotte reported on a Krause Hen and Schopftintlingen that they discovered on October 12th. The fresh weather and the deep nutrients of the forest floor ensure that the mushrooms sprout. Tim even collected all the porcini mushrooms and chestnut mushrooms with his family in the Taunus on October 11th. So it becomes clear: the region is a true mushroom paradise.

The experiences and finds of local collectors show how diverse and lively the current mushroom season is. Anyone who would also like to contribute something to the community is invited to submit their mushroom photos under the heading “The Main-Kinzig district is so beautiful”. This not only creates a beautiful collection of images, but also a lively exchange about nature's most delicious treasures. There's something for all mushroom lovers and nature lovers!
