Repair café opens again: Avoid garbage together on July 19!
On Saturday, July 19, a very special event will take place in the Bischofsheim district center: The neighborly repair café opens its doors from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. At Dörnigheimer Straße 25, everyone who wants to bring their defective items back to life can bring their treasures and work on it together with experienced volunteers. You can look forward to numerous repair options - be it electronics, bicycles, textiles or even toys.
The concept of the repair café is based on the principle of waste prevention and neighborly cooperation. According to Repaircafe.org , such cafés are places where not only broken things are made brisk again, but also the joy of repairing and sharing is recovered. The visitors are invited to actively help or just relax with a cup of coffee while being repaired.
tackle together
In Bischofsheim there is no need to make an appointment, which makes access easier. However, it is recommended to have instructions for use or circuit diagrams in your luggage for electrical devices. Interested parties should consider that only one object can be brought per person to repair and the last assumption of repair orders will be taken at 12.30 p.m. Since the repair café is not a free repair service, small donations are welcome to support the volunteers.
With the increasing number of repair cafes, a strong sign is set against the disposable mentality. Many things we throw away in everyday life could often be repaired slightly. According to Damfratger.bayern.de the Free State of Bavaria promotes such initiatives to actively support waste avoidance and climate protection. The aim is to extend the lifespan of everyday objects and thus contribute to resource conservation.
a place for creativity and knowledge
The idea of preserving and promoting repair knowledge is the focus of all these efforts. Repaircafe.org it calls a challenge of the current time that the knowledge of repairing many things is threatened to be lost. The volunteers in the repair café therefore not only use their manual skills, but also get involved in schools to inspire younger generations for repair
So if you want to repair something together, revive old treasures or just to learn more about craft and sustainability, you should definitely drop by the district center on July 19 and contribute a piece to environmental and resource conservation.
