Hanau Ski and Canoe Society celebrates 100 years of adventure!
A special weekend marks the start of June 13, 2025 for the Ski and Canoe Society Hanau 1925 e.V.: The club is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The SKG was founded by five enthusiastic men on March 6, 1925, who founded the Hanau Canoe Club. A lot has changed since those humble beginnings. In the 1920s, members built their own boats - a good example of the original community spirit.
The club's path was not always easy. The destruction during the Second World War severely slowed down club life when the boathouse built in 1926 was damaged. But things started to change in 1956 when the ski department was founded and the club from then on operated as the Hanau Ski and Canoe Society. Today the club has around 400 members and offers a wide range of sports and leisure activities.
Sporting successes and talents
A notable aspect of the club is its promotion of young talent in a wide variety of disciplines, including kayak cross, canoe slalom, canoe polo and stand-up paddling (SUP). Athletes like Caroline Trompeter are a true source of inspiration here. The 27-year-old, who is currently working towards the Extreme Canoe Slalom World Championships in Bratislava, has already achieved a lot. She won the first gold medal in the discipline at the World Championships in Pau, France, in 2017 and won the overall World Cup in extreme canoe slalom before the World Championships. Her next goals are ambitious: a medal at the World Cup and possibly participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where extreme canoe slalom is new to the Olympic program.
Caroline Trompeter's impressive performance is complemented by other outstanding members of the club. Lukas Brese and Dorothée Utz, the U23 European champion, also have significant successes at national and international level. Axel Hartmann, Peter Weidert, the dragon boat world champion, as well as the canoe polo players Elena Gilles and Caroline Sinsel enrich the club with their skills and commitment.
Anniversary celebrations
The anniversary celebration begins on June 14, 2025 with live music and a colorful family celebration the following day. The event will be a real treat for water sports lovers and newbies. Various activities are planned, including kayaking and SUP experiences as well as dragon boat rides. A particularly exciting highlight is the SUP sprint duel between world champion Norman Weber and a surprising guest.
In order to remain viable for the future, the Hanau Ski and Canoe Society is still urgently looking for young talent and committed instructors. There is great potential in the region and club life should remain vibrant in the coming years. The 100th anniversary is not only a reason to celebrate, but also an occasion to look to the future and welcome new members.
Overall, it shows that the Hanau Ski and Canoe Society not only has a long tradition, but is also a lively place for encounters and sport. The combination of sporting ambition and community spirit is remarkably persistent here and will continue to inspire future generations. The anniversary celebrations are the perfect moment to reflect on your own history and at the same time attract motivated beginners.
