Barkers and fairy tales: Hanau is celebrating a colorful festival!

From July 17, 2025, Freiheitsplatz in Hanau will be the scene of a colorful hustle and bustle when the Hamburg market crier visits the city for the first time. Until July 20th, they will be presenting their wares with a generous dose of humor and wit, while visitors will be enticed by the various culinary stands. The official opening will take place on Friday, July 17th at 11 a.m. - with a hearty tapping, free beer and a delicious barker breakfast. An event that simply shouldn't be missed!

The event's opening hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. To make the little visitors happy, there is also a children's program, hands-on activities and a general market that invites you to browse and discover. The Barker Show is just one of many highlights of the 38th cultural tour summer, which this year features a varied program. Visitors can look forward to an exciting mix of poetry, music and cuisine, which is offered throughout the city.

Diverse events in the cultural tour summer

The cultural tour summer has even more delicacies to offer: On Thursday, July 17th, a performance of “Peer Gynt” is on the program in the Wilhelmsbad State Park at 8 p.m. Anyone who likes rocky children's entertainment will get their money's worth at "Heavysaurus", a dinosaur metal show, on Friday at 5:30 p.m. On Sunday, July 20th, little guests can expect a performance of “The Little Prince” at 2 p.m., which is suitable for children aged four and over.

Another highlight is the Hanau Poetry Slam on Saturday, July 19th, at 7:30 p.m. on the Parkbühne, followed by a comical summer night on Sunday, which will provide the best entertainment with four comedians from 8 p.m. At the same time, the Brothers Grimm Festival is taking place, offering another family experience with “The Bremen Town Musicians” on Friday and Saturday.

Central venues

Hanau offers a variety of venues, including the amphitheater, the Old Town Market and the Atelier Agora Chromata. The latter invites you to a paper mache figure workshop on Saturday and Sunday, while the “Summer Camp on the Farm” in the Forum Hanau ensures fun until Saturday. There is also something for those interested in sports: On Monday, July 21st, the fairytale cup will take place on the sports field of 1. Hanauer FC 1893 e.V., which offers free entry.

The city brings the challenge to participate through various event formats that include both local artists and national guests. Funding for these events comes from Sparkasse Hanau, Stadtwerke Hanau and the Hessian state funding program “Future Inner City”. The broad support proves that something is really going on in Hanau!
