A remarkable incident occurred in the early morning of June 15, 2025 in Hanau im Kinzigtal. Shortly after 1:50 a.m., a 38-year-old man from Hanau lost control of his BMW while driving towards Beethovenplatz on Gustav-Hoch-Straße. The driver was drunk and ended up with his vehicle in the historic Schwanenbrunnen, causing significant damage not only to a historical monument but also to the car. According to the Fuldaer Zeitung, the damage caused is estimated at around 55,000 euros.
Interestingly, the Swan Fountain is a cultural monument that has stood in Hanau since 1976. The police confiscated the driver's license and took a blood sample. Criminal proceedings have already been initiated. This accident resulted in significant property damage, and alcohol was also involved here: the driver had an alcohol test of 3.63 per mille. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries and police investigated on suspicion of endangering road traffic.
