But not only the picturesque landscapes and animals are important, the focus is also on the continuous efforts to protect and preserve. A particularly successful nature conservation project is the "Hässeler Weiher" near Neuenhaßlau, which has been grazed by rear cattle and conic horses since 2016. For this purpose, the PGNU planning office on behalf of the Darmstadt regional council carried out a comprehensive recording of the flora and fauna in order to document the positive development in species protection. The first captures of the habitat took place in 2016, and the results show amazing progress, so that one looks pleased with the existing development. The biodiversity in the Main-Kinzig-Kreis

As part of the nature conservation project, gratifying figures on the occurrence of endangered animal species such as the Kiebitz and the turning halls could be found. Particularly noteworthy is the Rohrschwirl, the stocks of which have been quintupled since 2016 - currently five couples are currently breeding in the region. This makes the Hässeler Weiher one of the most important habitats of this kind in Hesse. Such successes underline the positive developments that could be found for animals as well as for plants such as orchids and arnica.

Nevertheless, the Main-Kinzig district faces major challenges. In recent decades there has been a massive decline in the local animal and plant species, with a decline in insect biomass by around 75 percent within just 30 years. While the number of bird species in the EU has decreased by 56 percent since 1980, it is also important to take the loss of many domestic species, including the skylark and Goldammer. Together for nature

Projects that aim at biotope protection and the targeted preservation of selected species are very popular. Through such measures we can not only share the livelihood of many animals and plants, but also leave an intact nature in future generations.

In this sense, the community invites everyone to participate in the nature conservation projects and to keep the beauty of the Main-Kinzig district and its animal diversity alive. Show your photographic impressions and help to preserve nature!
