Fallen tree in Bad Orb: Fire brigade frees trapped people

An unexpected incident occurred yesterday evening in Bad Orb in the “Friesen Heiligen” area when a fallen tree blocked a parking lot and trapped two people inside. The Bad Orb volunteer fire department was alerted at 7:25 p.m. By using an emergency fire engine (HLF), the tree was quickly chopped up with a chainsaw and the traffic obstruction was removed. The road was then thoroughly cleaned so that those affected could quickly continue on their way. The fire department's quick response not only saved the situation, but also proves how important every minute is in such cases. This reports Advance Online.

A similar incident previously occurred in Heimbach, where a fallen treetop also blocked a road. There the fire brigade alerted the Hausen and Heimbach firefighting groups at 8:36 a.m. During this operation it took at least 1 hour and 15 minutes until the tree, which was around 10 meters long and 15 cm thick, could be removed. Here, too, the tree was cleared away with a chainsaw and the site was handed over to the municipal public order office, as shown Heimbach fire department is to be read.

Fire brigades in action

Both missions impressively demonstrate the challenges facing fire departments in Germany and Switzerland. According to extensive fire department statistics provided by Feucos was published, the fire departments in Switzerland and Liechtenstein recorded more firefighting operations in 2022 than in the previous year.

A total of 1,212 fire service organizations were active, with a majority of the 78,400 firefighters being men. What is impressive is that the proportion of women has slowly increased in recent years. The statistics also show that in 2022 the number of operations due to natural events was drastically reduced, which offers fire departments a wider range of challenges - including technical assistance such as tree felling and rescue operations.

The operations in Bad Orb and Heimbach clearly illustrate how important it is to react quickly to such events. The firefighters, who often work under extreme conditions, ensured safety in both cases with their commitment and speed.
