for a climate -conscious urban design
In the past few decades, it has been shown that cities are particularly heating up on hot summer days. This development is referred to as an urban heating effect, caused by sealed areas and lack of vegetation. In order to counteract this, innovative solutions are required. According to the WHO, there were around 166,000 heat -related deaths worldwide between 1998 and 2017. The Fraunhofer IBP supports municipalities in planning and carrying out climate -adapted urban design. The institute offers research on climate compensation and develops tools for evidence -based planning. This also includes the simulation of urban climate in order to test the effects of various adjustment measures. Because clear thing: the more green in the city, the better for the microclimate and the quality of life of the citizens.
The extensive combination of competition, project promotion and urban planning measures make it clear that Hessen is preceded by a good example. The connection from nature and urban life harbors enormous potential to increase the quality of life and reduce the risk of heat waves. Registration for the projects and competitions not only offers a way to participate, but also an opportunity to become creative and to make an active contribution to climate protection. In this sense - on the gardens!
