The train station festival in Königstein was once again a highlight for railway fans and families this year. This traditional festival took place on Whit Sunday and Monday and was celebrated for the 43rd time. Despite the mixed weather, numerous visitors came to the station to secure tickets for the historic steam locomotives Taunus news reported.
The rigid steam locomotive “52 4867”, built in 1943, was the showpiece of the festival. With an impressive working weight of 133.1 tons and a length of 22.9 meters, it impressed young and old alike. Attractions for young and old
Visitors had the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes in the locomotive's boiler room. Authentic conductors, old warning signs and the interior design of the carriages created a nostalgic atmosphere. Especially for the little guests, there was the Deutsche Reichsbahn postal car, which specifically offered space for strollers. The children were also able to drive the “Kö 5712” diesel locomotive, built in 1940, which was a real highlight for many.
There was a lot of hustle and bustle and conviviality at the train station. The smell of bratwurst and other delicacies hung in the air, while stalls with antiques and curiosities relating to the railway system wooed visitors. Those looking for even more action could have fun on the carousel or climb onto the “turntable ladder vehicle DL 30 + 2h”, which was exhibited by the Rhein-Main Fire Department Museum Association. Unfortunately, fewer vehicles were present due to illness, but the atmosphere was still excellent and the events were consistently rated positively.
A look into the future
For rail fans there is already another reason to be excited. On July 5th, a special train with a historic diesel locomotive will set off for the “Rhine in Flames” spectacle. An event not to be missed!
The steam locomotive “52 4867” has an eventful history behind it: Originally built for the GDR Railways (DRB), it changed hands several times, including being used by the ÖBB and the Graz-Köflacher Bahn. Since 1980, however, it has been owned by the Historic Railway Frankfurt, which takes care of the care and preservation of this impressive machine, which now has a special place in the hearts of local residents and railway lovers.
