Two young role models from Wiesbaden: commitment that inspires!

On June 16, 2025, a special honor took place in the heart of Wiesbaden, where two remarkable young women were honored for their extraordinary social commitment. The award ceremony, organized by the Zonta Club Wiesbaden, was chaired by Vanessa Engel and Signe Roß. The audience showed great applause for the award winners and their commitment, which is considered exemplary for others, as Wiesbadener Kurier reports.

The first prize winner, Helene, attends the Martin Niemöller School and is currently about to take her oral Abitur examination. Her fellow student Anna Maria, head girl at the Gutenberg School, is particularly active in the “Teen Court” of the Wiesbaden public prosecutor’s office, where she acts as a student judge. Her goal is to “give people a voice.” She attaches great importance to dialogue and listening, especially in discussions, in order to build bridges between different opinions.

Involvement in Teen Court

Anna Maria's role in "Teen Court" is more than just a formality. In this innovative youth project, which Justice Minister Eva Kühne-Hörmann described as successful, young people enter into dialogue with their actions. For minor offenses that do not need to be dealt with in formal proceedings, the student courts are available to develop educational measures and lighter sanctions. In 2021, 103 cases were successfully concluded, a significant increase compared to 2020, when there were only 62 cases, as Hesse Ministry of Justice reports.

In the “Teen Court” sessions, the young people deal intensively with their actions. Creativity-promoting work also plays a role here by creating works of art, CVs or essays. This concept not only aims to understand actions, but also helps those involved to take responsibility and develop empathy. Such programs are crucial to effectively combat youth crime and rely on strengthening cooperation between schools, the judiciary and youth welfare services Federal Youth Ministry emphasized.

Role models for the community

Anna Maria is also active in the Naurod-Fondettes partnership association, where she promotes exchanges with young people from the French partner community. Your initiative is seen by many as an important opportunity to strengthen intercultural dialogue and reduce prejudices. This evening it became clear that the commitment of the two award winners not only inspires their peers, but also has a positive impact on the entire community.

With their award-worthy performance, Helene and Anna Maria show that youth engagement is not only important, but also feasible. The great interest and recognition shown in their honor is a further incentive for young people to continue to be actively involved in their surroundings.
